If not already in place, we enable quality engineering platform using state-of-the-art open source continuous integration platform such as Jenkins and quality plugins such as Checkstyle, FindBugs, PMD, PIT Mutation testing, and Jacoco. And ensure that the current code has acceptable levels of tests and quality engineering in place. We then develop the upgrades that meet the current quality matrix as well as develop new tests that cover changes / new code.
